English Language Tutorial Teacher, Part-Time

Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered English language tutorial teacher who will join our community as a part-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.” 
 
ABOUT THE POSITION 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Tutor up to 12 international students for one hour per week in a one-to-one setting English Language Tutorial (ELT) program.  This tutorial aims at providing support to students for whom English is a foreign language and who wish to further strengthen their English language skills.
  • Partner with the International Student Coordinator to assess the English language skill levels of students enrolled in the ELT program.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Attend Teaching and Learning Center department meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, advisors, and classroom teachers to provide a holistic and integrated approach to supporting students enrolled in the ELT program.
  • Communicate student progress to parents/guardians and appropriate KUA faculty members through tutorial summary reports.
  • Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
  • Open to learning and utilizing the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising and within the residential program.
  • Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
  • Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum and participate in committee work as requested by school leadership.
 
QUALIFICATIONS 
  • 1-5 years in the field of ESL.
  • A bachelor’s degree in an academic subject, education, or a closely related field.
  • Current pedagogical practices which may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning.
  • Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
  • Facility with educational LMS portals, Mac OS, Mircrosoft365, Google apps, and other education-enhancing products.
  • Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people.
