Hunter Ulf P'05, '09 is KUA's New Chief Operating Officer

Hunter Ulf,  P'05, '09, well-known Upper Valley architect and Kimball Union past parent (Kerstin ’05 and Brita ’09), has been appointed KUA’s new Chief Operating Officer.  Hunter was the founding principal of UK Architects in Hanover, NH and is widely recognized for his architectural and planning work throughout Northern New England. His broad portfolio includes work on commercial, residential, educational and recreational projects.

A familiar face on campus, Hunter began his professional relationship with Kimball Union a decade ago, designing transformational projects like the Campus Center, Miller Bicentennial Hall, and the Learning Center. In addition, he designed many faculty residence renovation projects, including MacLeay House, the exterior of Jones House, and Munro House, and the beautiful renovations and addition to Dad’s House. In addition, Hunter conducted a comprehensive facilities audit for the entire campus.  Of late, prior to this appointment, Hunter has been working to develop plans for the future renovation and expansion of the Whittemore Center, renovations to Coffin, and the refurbishment of Fitch, and the initial conceptual design development of campus housing additions and renovations.
 
With his experience in master planning and strategic planning for a number of independent schools, his commitment to historic preservation and sustainability, his intimate knowledge of Kimball Union’s campus and needs, and his close ties to the school, and his commitment to sustainable design and performance, Hunter brings the talent and skills necessary for the development and design of revisions to KUA's  campus master plan, the execution of strategic initiatives for the physical plant, and implementation of sustainability programs in collaboration with Greener U.
 
Hunter’s responsibilities will also include the development of comprehensive campus maintenance program,  coordinating space utilization and the revision of our design guidelines, sustainable energy management systems development,  including the promotion of programs for energy reduction with faculty and students, and once settled, joining the teaching faculty in course and seminar work.  Hunter will be representing KUA with the Town of Plainfield in all plant and property related projects, and will be overseeing campus safety and emergency management.  His acumen and experience in representing Kimball Union in audiences of all sizes and shapes will be an asset in project process management as well as alumni and development and external relations.   He will serve on the Head’s Advisory Council.

Prior to founding UK Architects, Ulf worked for architectural firms in Colorado and Boston, and among his many credentials, has been President of the American Institute of Architects Vermont and New England Chapters, and served on the AIA National Board as the New England Director. He is currently in his second term on the board of the NH Preservation Alliance, and an active member in Plan NH, the board of the NH Preservation Alliance, and an active member in Plan NH, serving as a planning charrette leader in communities around NH.

Hunter begins on August 1 and will have an office in Baxter Hall. He lives in North Pomfret, VT with his wife Lisa.
