The Kimball Union Girl's Varsity Soccer program has established itself as a formidable force within the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) competition. Their unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence have yielded admirable results over the past decade. From 2011 to 2015, they consistently advanced to the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, showcasing their tenacity and skill on the field. However, their crowning achievement came in 2016 when they emerged triumphant as the NEPSAC Class C Champions, etching their name in the annals of the school's athletic history. Undeterred by their success, the team continued to demonstrate their prowess, securing semifinal berths in both the 2017 and 2018 New England Class C tournaments, solidifying their status as a perennial powerhouse in the region.
In 2024, the team will be led by Lucas Richardson, a career educator who currently serves on the leadership team of Soccer Without Borders, an award-winning sports-based youth development organization. Coach Richardson most recently served as head girls' soccer coach at Kent Denver, where he guided the team to an undefeated, championship-winning season and was selected as the Colorado High School 3A Coach of the Year. A former Dartmouth soccer player, Coach Richardson got his start as a coach in the Upper Valley and is excited to be returning to the area with his wife and four young children.
GVS found their first Class C loss today playing against a tenacious New Hampton team. Dakoda drew a foul just outside the box with two minutes left in the first half. Captain Summer converted the free kick and put KUA up 1-0 for halftime. Defensive miscommunication in the second half allowed NHS to steadily put three in the back of the net. With only a few minutes left, Izzy pushed the ball in off a Summer corner kick to bridge the gap but it wasn't enough. Despite the loss, the team still enjoyed each other's company, celebrating our 13 seniors: Madeleine, Hadley B., Kai, Summer, Reese, Dakoda, Addi, Hadley M., Sylvie, Ava, Bethany, Isa, and Macy.
GVS came out a bit too flat today and lost to Cushing Academy. Captain Summer put us on the scoreboard with less than five minutes left. The team rallied to find another but couldn't get there before the final whistle. The team is looking forward to their senior game this Saturday at 2:30pm on Pope Field.
KUA fought hard against a fast and skilled Austin Prep team. The one goal went in the last third of the first half. GVS played a tremendous defensive second half and then spent the last few minutes trying to send more girls forward to find the equalizer. Despite several chances, the Wildcats couldn't find the back of the net. A huge shoutout to Sydney for her amazing showing in goal today. Her back line were consistent the whole game and another shoutout to captain Reese and Shannon for playing the entire game in the midfield without ever giving up. The girls look forward to playing Cushing Academy at home on Wednesday.
