Electrician, Full-Time
Kimball Union is seeking a full-time experienced Electrician. Primarily responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing wiring systems, equipment, and fixtures, this position will work on specialized electrical equipment and electrical motors and engines. Work will include projects and maintenance.
Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks a qualified individual to fill the role of Facilities and Operations Electrician. The individual in this position performs skilled electrical tasks in accordance with the standard practices of the electrician trade. Work may include the direction of assigned semi-skilled and unskilled helpers. Assignments are received in the form of oral or written work orders and may be accompanied by plans and sketches. Supervision is received from a superior who assigns work orders and inspects work in progress and completed for compliance with direction or with plans and specifications; however, the employee is expected to determine work methods and proceed with little technical supervision.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Installs, alters, maintains and repairs wiring systems, equipment, and fixtures such as switches, outlets, light fixtures, exhaust and circulation fans, etc.
- Installs and makes electrical repairs on specialized electrical equipment such as boilers, furnaces, other HVAC equipment, refrigeration units, dishwashers, water heaters, kitchen appliances and other similar equipment, usually in cooperation with other skilled maintenance department staff and communicates through Supervisor for additional help as needed.
- Installs and maintains electrical motors and generators, seats and replaces brushes, oils and cleans motors, and does other electrical and limited mechanical work in repairing and replacing parts.
- Estimates time and materials required to complete a work order; requisitions material as necessary.
- Directs the work of assigned helpers; makes assignments and reviews work in progress and completed.
- Performs other work both specific and outside this department as assigned by supervisor based on training and capability.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- The applicant must be able to work independently with a high energy level as well as a strong desire to help others. The job requires someone with excellent communication skills, strong computer skills and the ability to adapt to always changing priorities.
- The applicant must be well versed in using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Considerable knowledge of the tools, materials, methods and practices of the electrician trade.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
- Ability to perform a variety of skilled electrical work.
- Ability to instruct and direct the work of helpers.
- Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, specifications and oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of the current electrical codes sufficient to the needs of the assigned tasks.
- Ability to make estimates of time and materials required to complete a work order.
- The applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
- The applicant must be able to pass a required background check.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years experience of on-the-job training in the electrician trade OR completion of a formal four-year apprenticeship in the electrician trade.
- Employee should hold a New Hampshire State license of sufficient level to meet all current code requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent education commensurate to the position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Because of these potential exposures, the employee is required to attend all related safety training sessions and follow/comply with all appropriate safety guidelines.
WORK SHIFT
The work shift for this position is full-time and will be based on the assignment and needs of the Academy. A typical workday is an eight-hour shift, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime and emergency calls may be required.
