Wildcats lose in overtime

It took a 3 on 3 overtime period to settle a dramatic back and forth game that the St. Paul’s coach described as an “old-fashioned barn burner.” Neither team was ever ahead by more than a goal. St Paul’s scored first, but Anthony Solt tied things up assisted by Liam McKewan to make it 1 – 1 after one period. St. Paul’s scored again, but Isaac Bliss jammed a rebound in from right in front of the net to tie the game at two after two periods. AJ Noel scored early in the third to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game, but St Paul’s counterattacked and tied the game again. Then in a dramatic moment, a St. Paul’s skater was called for covering the puck in the goal crease and KUA was awarded a penalty shot. Isaac Bliss took a good shot, but the goalie stopped him and the score remained tied. Less than a minute later, a second penalty shot was called against St. Paul’s, and Isaac confidently buried the puck to put KUA ahead again. St. Paul’s tied the game in the closing minutes and then scored mid-way through the overtime period, and the large St. Paul’s student cheering section responded as if their team had just won the Stanley Cup.
