Promising Season Opener

The KUA Cross Country team opened the season with a home race against Proctor Academy and Cardigan Mountain School.  On the boys’ side, junior Josh Huett took the early lead and cruised to victory with a margin of over half a minute.  Senior Aaron Picard took 3rd place and freshman Henry Vansant made his mark finishing 3rd for KUA and 5th overall.  Senior Isaac Dayno closed out the scoring for KUA in 6th place right behind Henry.  Senior Phil Sparks and junior Aaron Mitchell, 8th and 9th place overall displaced the competition thereby widening the margin of victory.  In the girls’ race, KUA did not have enough runners in the race to score thereby resulting in Proctor winning by default.  However, freshmen Caitlin Porrazzo and Emma Porrazzo took 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.  Each ran a solid race without the benefit of competition nearby and outdistanced the next runner by almost five minutes.  Most returning runners improved on their times from the home opening race last year…a good beginning for the team!
