KUA remained perfect at home on the season with a 50-39 victory over Class A St. Paul’s (7-11). Lone senior Bianca Brenz (Lawrence, MA) drew a large, supportive crowd to cheer her on in her final regular-season home game. KUA raced out to a 24-8 lead thanks to focused and aggressive defense. Rebecca DeTurk (Hartland, VT) had big steals in the first half while Autumn Kariuki and Fiekah Fataar continued to work hard on the boards and Gabby Diaz dished some fancy assists. KUA went in to the break with a 26-12 advantage with Brenz leading the way with 8 first half points. The second half started slowly but then KUA got their transition game going to build a sizable lead (43-18). DeTurk had three breakaway layups and Brenz continued to have a hot hand finishing with a season-high 18 points. Gretchen Schissel played some strong minutes grabbing rebounds and defending well. Diaz finished with a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists to go with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. KUA's Kariuki had a game-high 15 rebounds and Fataar finished with 8 boards while St. Paul’s Matteson hit 4 of her 5 threes in the closing minutes to close the gap to 11.
There is no rest for the 15-4 Wildcats as they travel to Groton, MA to take on Class B Groton School tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30p.m.
