Wildcats Win Small School Championship!

In the championship game of the NEPSAC Small School tournament, the Wildcats used a three-goal second period to earn a 5-3 win over Berkshire School on Sunday at UConn. Josh Phillips scored a first-period goal for KUA to open the scoring midway through the frame, but a Berkshire powerplay goal tied the game late in the period. In the second, Berkshire took a 2-1 lead just a minute in, but KUA tied the game on the next shift when a pressure forecheck caused Berkshire to mishandle the puck and send it off its own goalie and into the net. Phillips, the last Wildcat to touch the puck, got credit for the goal. Five minutes later, older brother Zach Phillips converted a pass from Corwith Simmers to give the Wildcats a lead they would not relinquish. Simmers made it a 4-2 game just three minutes later. And though Berkshire got within a goal late in the second, Iain Olsen sealed the victory with six minutes to play when his wrist shot from the left circle sailed over the Berkshire goalie's shoulder. Goalie Blake McMeniman earned the win for KUA, kicking out 25 shots on the day.
