Mourning the Loss of Macy Piersiak '25

Kimball Union Academy lost a beloved student and community member, Macy Piersiak '25. Macy passed away Sunday, November 10 in a motor vehicle accident at the age of 17.
Dear KUA Community,

At this time of year, I am usually eager to relay news from The Hilltop that captures the highest of highs that our students and faculty are experiencing as we wrap up the fall trimester. Believe me when I say we have seen such incredible moments here this fall.

Sadly, today I need to share that the energy of the fall has come to a pause as we mourn the loss of a beloved student, senior Macy Piersiak. Tragically, Macy passed away Sunday morning in a motor vehicle accident. Her family is at the very center of our thoughts, as we extend our support to our students, faculty, and extended community.

Macy had a smile for everyone, and her presence was immediately felt wherever she was on campus – as a dutiful and energizing manager of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team, as a proctor in Richards Hall, and with such frequency, part of a bubbling group of friends bringing laughter to Doe Dining Hall.

Her energy was always of uncommon generosity, spirit, and kindness. As our campus community has come together to grieve, process, and treasure the time we had with Macy, those were the gifts I observe our faculty and students extending to one another in return.

I truly believe that the depth of the character of KUA, of its people, can be seen most clearly at our lowest of moments – times when we call upon the investments that have been made in relationships – shared experiences – and the deep-rooted kindness that Macy so radiantly emanated.

Those in our alumni, faculty, and parent community who have experienced the passing of lives taken too soon will understand the pain and disbelief that so many in our community are working through today. You can likely foresee the deeper connection they will have because of the strength they are finding in one another.

Macy absolutely LOVED KUA and the people here, and she extended that to everyone. We will remember that as we honor her legacy. I know that whether we are at the highest of highs or the lowest of lows, our extended KUA community is with us, helping us move forward. As well, we are with all of you who feel this pain empathically or as a reminder of other losses you have experienced.

There was so much beauty in Macy, captured in this obituary her family created.  With sensitivity to all else you may be carrying, we ask that you keep Macy, her family, and the KUA community in your thoughts at this time.

Warmly,

Tyler Lewis
