Preparing Your Private-School Application

Choosing the right private school is one of the most important decisions for families. However, the application process can be daunting. Director of Enrollment Management Josh Labove shares how to take the stress out of the journey.
Dr. Labove shares three ways that will help you get started on your application not just to a boarding school in New Hampshire like Kimball Union Academy, but to any private school you may be considering as the February 1 deadline approaches.

1. Check all the checklists. Many schools require different forms, recommendations, and testing. While most use a common application, that's where the similarities often end. Make sure you've tackled everything in the way each school is expecting.

2. Check your work. You usually can't submit individually to each school you're applying to, so it's a good idea to avoid telling us how much you want to go to, say, Hogwarts Academy. A good spellcheck goes a long way too!

3. Make time to visit. While you can't customize your applications, you can visit and meet the friendly folks who will be reading your application. Visiting helps you learn more about a school, what they value, and helps you begin to see yourself in that community.
