A late goal from Matthew Ross broke a 2-2 tie as the Wildcats beat Holderness 4-2 to capture the Lakes Region Tournament Championship trophy on Saturday in Meriden. With the win, KUA sweeps both the regular season and playoff titles in the Lakes Region for the season.
After a scoreless first period, Holderness struck first, scoring off the rush five minutes into the second. However, KUA answered quickly, as Josh Phillips tied the game two minutes later. Zach Phillips then scored with two minutes to play in the period. Both goals were assisted by Rowen Sang. In the third, the Wildcats pressed hard and carried the play, but Holderness tied the game with eight minutes to play, which gave the opportunity for Ross to convert a pass from Alexis Gagne to score the game-winner with four minutes left. Max Kimelman added an empty-netter to secure the win in the final seconds. Goalie Blake McMeniman stood tall in the net, stopping 25 of 27 shots, including several key saves late in the third to preserve the win.
