The Wildcats made the long trek to Brewster on Wednesday and came back with a win worth the trip. Both the girls and boys teams pulverized the competition as they once again took first place in the Lakes Region.
The lady Wildcats had another very successful meet as they placed three runners in the top ten for the win. Caitlin Porrazzo, the one-shoe wonder, finished in first place with a time of 21:28. She crossed the finish line just one second, and one shoe, ahead of the Brewster competition. Right on her sister’s heels was Emma Porrazzo in third place with a time of 21:38. The rookie twins have reinvigorated the KUA Cross Country team and made waves in the Lakes Region running world with their lighting fast times and precocious performances. Rounding out the top ten at Brewster was senior Annie Loftus with a personal record of 27:24. Loftus’s time sealed the victory for the girl’s team and established them as a force to be reckoned with come Lakes Region Championships.
The more testosterone-fueled half of the Kimball Union Cross Country team also experienced the thrill of victory on Wednesday as they once again clinched the top spot in the division. Senior Aaron Picard ran to his first Lakes Region title with a blistering sub 19-minute time of 18:55. He was followed by freshman Henry Vansant who finished seventh in the regional meet with a time of 20:17. Right behind was senior Isaac Dayno, who finished third for the Cats and ninth overall at 20:45. Finishing the scoring for the boys in tenth and securing the KUA win was sophomore Kodi Alvord at 21:01. An injured Zack Hallock and Phil Sparks both displaced for Kimball Union to further distance the team from the competition. Many impartial bystanders at the meet remarked on the depth and skill of KUA’s boy’s team and their success this season, despite the loss of Josh Huett.
KUA finished the day with a boy’s team score of 27, nearly 20 points ahead of rival and second fiddler Proctor, while the girls finished two points ahead of Holderness for the day. The Wildcats race at Vermont Academy next Wednesday.
