KUA takes Proctor

KUA hosted a relentless Proctor squad for the third time this season. This time however, the stakes were even higher. The two teams faced off for the Lakes Region League championship. The game started out with a back and forth nature that resembled a ping-pong match much more than a hockey game. The puck rarely seemed to enter either team’s zone with any form of control or clear possession. Rather, the puck was batted around, mostly spending time in the neutral zone. This would not however remain the case for the entire period. KUA would net two strong goals, both from the left side of the ice. The first came from Nic Hamre on a rush down the boards. His shot beat the Proctor net minder on the far side. The next goal of the period would be scored by Thomas Samuelson on a broken play. Samuelson rounded the back of the net and as he moved away, turned and slung a bullet of a shot to the near-side upper corner to make it 2-0. The second period would see Proctor come back on two turnovers to end the period 2 all. As the third period started, one could feel the tension in the air. KUA rarely has found itself in this position going into the third period. So in dramatic fashion George Sennott would come to the rescue and net the third and final goal of the game for the Wildcats early in the period. This left much of the responsibility on Payton Porter to continue a strong showing between the pipes. He did, and the Wildcats skated away with the Lakes Region Championship and an overall school record for the most wins by any team at 29.
Come support the team in the first round of the NEPSAC Tournament this Wednesday as they face Loomis here on the hilltop.
