KUA Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse: Teamwork, Development, Excellence

The KUA Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Team participates in the competitive Lakes Region Athletic Conference. As a varsity team, our ultimate goal, is to develop our players both on and off the field. We strive to excel in the classroom first and foremost, as well as to build our players’ skills on the lacrosse field. This combination of excelling on and off the field has led our program to having a long history of alumnae playing at top tier Division I, II and III schools.

The development of our student-athletes begins with our coaches. KUA’s current head coach is Brigid “Brig” Hurley. Coach Brig has been coaching high level lacrosse for over ten years and brings a background of playing and coaching at the college level. Coach Brig played at St. Lawrence University, where she captained her senior season and earned Regional All-American honors. After graduating in 2013, she went on to coach at the University of Manchester in Manchester, England. She then completed her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership, specializing in Sports Leadership from Mercyhurst University. While at Mercyhurst, she was the Interim Head Women's Lacrosse Coach and led the team to their first PSAC Championship win in program history in 2016. Before coming to KUA, Coach Brig was the Girls' High School Program Director for Harlem Lacrosse Boston, where she oversaw academics, athletics, and the college recruitment process. She has most recently completed her Master of School Counseling degree from Boston College and is a School Counselor here on the hilltop. This background allows for her to help develop players into collegiate athletes and assist them in the recruiting process.

  • KUA Tops Tilton

It was a sunny day at Tilton, but it didn't take too long for the Wildcats to heat up. Three minutes into the game, Carissa Tambroni '20 netted a goal to get the Wildcats on the board. Midfield defense, double team efforts, and multiple interceptions were key in the Wildcats quick lead. Six players played an essential role in the offensive push for KUA. Eloise Davis '21, Molly Davis '19, Tambroni '20, Captain Haley Fahey '19, Captain Molly Flanagan '19,  and Ryle Ferguson '19 all scored two goals. Freshman Molly Gesner also notched a point for KUA. It was a team effort to pull out the Win over the Rams. Next up, Brewster Academy at Home on Wednesday, May 1st.
  • KUA and Holderness Battle to the Final Seconds

KUA showed up for a nail biter of a match up against the Holderness Bulls on Wednesday afternoon. Before the game, the two teams participated in a ceremony for the OneLove foundation, an organization created in honor of Yeardley Love, a former member of the University of Virginia Women's Lacrosse team who was tragically lost at the hands of her boyfriend. The OneLove foundation supports high schools and colleges in spreading awareness of unhealthy relationships and provides students with the tools and conversations to better their schools, teams, and communities. The teams took a moment to share the love for the foundation before firing up what would be a battle to the end.

Holderness took the lead scoring 4 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game but it wasn't long before KUA made it a fight. Carissa Tambroni '20 started the scoring for the Wildcats but was soon followed by goals from Senior Captain Hailey Fahey, Eloise Davis '21, and Molly Davis '19 and Molly Gesner ’22. The Wildcats fought hard to even the score at 6-6, and from there, the game continued to be a back and forth battle down to the final thirty seconds. KUA controlled the draw 12 to 6 and the team's defense held off the Bulls coming up with interceptions and causing multiple turnovers. With about a minute left on the clock, and Holderness leading 11-9, Molly Davis won the draw, kept control, and fired off a shot to keep KUA in the game at 11-10. 45 seconds to go, Holderness took position but Senior defensemen Olive Scull kept fighting and caused a turnover that gave KUA one last chance to notch another goal. Despite valiant efforts, the clock ran out and Holderness took the win. KUA will have a rematch later in the season, but up next KUA faces the Tilton Rams at Tilton Friday night 4/19 at 4:30pm.
  • Wildcats drop one to the Bobcats

The wildcats travelled to Brewster Academy on a perfect spring day for a big match up against the Bobcats. It didn't take long for Brewster to take control of the ball before netting their first point 3 minutes into the game. Carissa Tambroni '20 and Molly Davis '19 lead the offensive push with 10 shots on the Bobcats Goalkeeper but couldn't find the back of the net until 3:30 left in the first. Freshman Molly Gesner came up strong in the second half scoring her first goal of her career but it would be the last goal the Wildcats net in the game. The Wildcats ultimately fell 15-2 but will have a lakes region rematch against Brewster at Home on April 24th at 4pm.
  • Wildcats Win Home Opener

The KUA Wildcats took the field Friday night with energy to set the tone for the season and did just that with a 15-4 win over the Tilton Rams. Midfield defense and a strong offensive push were key in taking home the win. Senior Captain Hailey Fahey lead the team with 5 goals while Senior Molly Davis and Junior Carissa Tambroni followed close behind each earning 4 goals. Junior Kyra Russman also had a stand out game with multiple turnovers in the midfield and netting 2 goals herself. The Wildcats look to play St. Pauls School on Saturday April 6th at 3:30pm.
  • KUA Falls to St. Pauls

Coming off a strong home opener, KUA took the field with grit for a tough match up against a talented St. Pauls team. Senior leaders Molly Davis and Hailey Fahey (Assisted by junior Kyra Russman) each scored what would be KUAs only goals for the game. The wildcats fought hard to the end but fell to St. Pauls 17-2. The Wildcats return to action next Wednesday April 10th at Home against the New Hampton Huskies.
