Situated in The Upper Valley, the Kimball Union cross country team has access to its own beautiful and extensive trail network as well as several beautiful trail systems in the surrounding area. The cross country team seeks to create a dynamic and inclusive team culture that promotes a love for running and competition. Coaches encourage student-athletes to develop and reflect on their goals while celebrating their progress throughout the season.
A typical training week for the cross country team involves trail runs, a few speed and strength-based running workouts, and two strength training circuits. A focus of the cross country team is to help our runners work on efficient and proper running form, so the team often begins practice with a series of dynamic stretches and running form drills.
The cross country team competes against other Lakes Region Schools, ending the regular season with the Lakes Region Championship early in November. Following the Lakes Region Championships, Kimball Union Academy competes in the NEPSTA Championships against a broader range of independent schools.
The Wildcats traveled to Vermont Academy to compete against 5 Lakes Region teams. It was a beautiful day for the Wildcats to compete on Vermont Academy’s hilly course. The KUA girls’ cross country team won the meet, beating out Brewster Academy. Chloe Yoon and Lizie Connors placed 3rd and 4th in the girls’ race. Tina Shi came in 9th place and finished her first race for KUA. For the boys’ team, Ben Conway led the way and came in 8th place. Max Chisholm was not too far behind Ben and came in 10th place. KUA will be hosting a home meet next Wednesday with Vermont Academy and Proctor Academy.
