The KUA Boys’ Ice Hockey Team is a proud member of the highly competitive Lakes Region League and holds a strong legacy within New England prep school hockey. The team has achieved numerous accomplishments, including multiple Lakes Region Championships, New England Prep Tournament appearances, and NEPSAC Elite Division Championships in 1982, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2024.
While competing for championships and postseason success is always an exciting achievement, the program’s primary focus is on the development of student-athletes aspiring to play at the collegiate level. KUA hockey alumni have gone on to compete at a variety of Division I and III schools, such as Boston College, Cornell University, Northeastern University, University of Vermont, Trinity College, Bowdoin College, and Middlebury College, as well as pursuing careers in professional hockey.
The foundation of the program’s success starts with its experienced coaching staff. KUA’s Head Coach is Tim Whitehead, a seasoned leader with a rich history in collegiate and prep hockey. Prior to joining KUA, Coach Whitehead spent 25 years coaching at the NCAA level, including head coaching stints at the University of Maine and UMass Lowell. His teams made numerous NCAA Tournament appearances, including 4 Frozen Fours and 2National Championship games.

Corwith Simmers and Jack Sadowski each scored two goals, and goalie Blake McMeniman stopped 30 shots as the Wildcats won the New England Prep School Elite 8 Championship with a 4-1 win over Cushing at Harvard on Sunday. Sadowski and Simmers each tallied in the first period, and KUA took a 2-0 lead to the locker room after one. Sadowski extended the lead to 3-0 on the powerplay in the second, but Cushing fought back with a goal to make the score 3-1 after two. Midway through the second, Sadowski appeared to have scored a hat trick (and subsequent replay showed that he did), but his would-be third goal was waved off when the referee said the puck appeared to hit the post and not the net. However, the Wildcats didn't relent and eventually added an empty-netter late in the game when Simmers sent a puck the length of the ice and into the Cushing goal to seal the championship. Sam LeDrew finished with three assists for KUA, while Andrew O'Sullivan had one. With the win, KUA has won four of the last seven New England titles awarded, with wins coming in 2017, 2018, 2019, and now 2024.
Jack Sadowski scored his second goal of the game 4:41 into overtime to send the Wildcats to the NEPSAC Elite 8 Finals with a 4-3 win over Salisbury on Saturday in Meriden. In front of a packed Akerstrom Arena, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the second period when Sam LeDrew scored on a bar-down one-timer on the powerplay. The game stayed that way until there were seven minutes left in the third when Sadowski scored to put KUA up 2-0. However, after taking a timeout, Salisbury stormed back to score three goals in 1:30 to take the lead. But KUA didn't quit, as Malcolm Baar scored on a rebound from Caden Barnard with less than two minutes left to tie the game and send it into overtime. In the extra frame, Sadowski worked hard on the forecheck to get the puck from a Salisbury defender before sliding it five-hole for the win, igniting the crowd in the process. Goalie Blake McMeniman stopped 28 shots for KUA, who takes on Cushing Academy for the championship on Sunday at 5:00 at Harvard's Bright Hockey Center.
Andrew O'Sullivan scored on a brilliant individual rush 17 minutes into overtime as the Wildcats defeated St. George's 5-4 on Wednesday in Meriden. In a roller-coaster game that saw KUA climb back from three separate one-goal deficits only to relinquish its own one-goal lead midway through the third period, the Wildcats found a way to win when O'Sullivan rushed the puck as a St. George's penalty expired and deposited a backhand, sending a raucous KUA student section into a frenzy. The other KUA goals came from Corwith Simmers and Sam LeDrew, each of whom scored twice. LeDrew also had an assist on the night while O'Sullivan and Jack Sadowski had two helpers each. Goalie Blake McMeniman stood tall in the KUA net, stopping 49 shots, including all 12 he saw in overtime. The win sets up a semi-final matchup with Salisbury School on Saturday at 2:30 in Meriden.
